Gill Hamilton

Works
Overview

Gill enjoys painting in both realistic and naive styles, but working in a naive style allows her the freedom, spontaneity and creativity to play with composition, colour and mark-making.

Some work verges on abstraction, concentrating on relationships between shape, tone, colour and line rather than a realistic portrayal.

Serendipity plays a part in the paintings and they evolve as areas are painted over and adjusted until a pleasing result emerges.

Biography

After a childhood spent constantly drawing Gill attended Burnley College of Art to complete  A Levels and an Art Foundation Degree before going on to Ripon College of Education studying Art and Education.  After early retirement from teaching due to family commitments she  began to develop her artistic practice, drawing from life whenever possible and settling on still life as a subject for her paintings.

Gill works from her home studio in Cheshire, exhibiting in galleries around the country and in 2019 was elected a member of the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts.
