Bridget Greenwood
Bridget is a contemporary abstract landscape painter based in Cheshire, close to the Welsh border. She paints intuitively to create expressive semi abstract landscapes in beautiful muted colours, in both oil and acrylic.
Bridget's work is all about the landscape and her emotional reaction to it. She paints intuitively using unplanned shapes and imagery to lead the work, and allows this freedom so accidents can happen, these accidents, or unintended marks are central to the work. It is a balance between purposeful marks & shapes to freedom and unconscious painting.
Bridget's work might be informed by landscapes that she has photographed and walked in, but there isn’t an intention to copy or base it on a real landscape. More often or not she recognises the real landscapes only once the painting is completed.
"Colour is at the forefront of my work, for me it is the colour choices that create the emotion, the calm and peace that comes from a muted harmonious palette."
Bridget was born in 1961 and grew up in Cheshire, she attended Art College 1980’s. She then went on to have a successful career in advertising in London, only returned to painting again in 2020, due to lockdown and the emotional outlet she needed at that time.
Bridget is represented by various galleries in the UK and her work is in private collections both nationally and internationally.
