Overview

Polly is a British painter whose work is rooted in landscape. Her paintings are mostly non-representational, but her focus is concerned with how it feels to be in a landscape; to respond to it in an intuitive way

Landscape is a source of escapism and connection for Polly and

these themes are central to her artistic practice. She experiences a push / pull between painting in an abstract and a semi-abstract way, and often finds that painting both is necessary to maintaining the loose and gestural marks which characterises her work.

In her paintings, Polly seeks to try and capture something of the landscape and seasons; and through this, attempts to create a sense of home, and a kind of cathartic way of feeling connected. She paints intuitively, with colour often forming the starting point and being a way in which to explore an emotive response to landscape.

Biography

Polly is an emerging British painter whose abstract and semi-abstract landscapes explore themes of escapism and connection.

Polly studied Art History at the University of St Andrews (2012) and has always painted for pleasure. She began selling her work in 2021, and in 2022 made painting her sole occupation.

Her paintings are now collected worldwide and she has quickly gained representation by a handful of select UK galleries. In 2023, she was awarded the Lady Hamlyn prize by Chelsea Arts Society.

Polly lives in North Somerset (near Bristol, UK) and much of her work is inspired by the surrounding landscape and the South West Coast.
